Raised on music, Lisa began her early singing career in the Baptist Church at the age of 6. By age 12, she had been exposed to the music of Billie Holiday and Miles Davis. Having heard the improvisational magic of Billie and Miles, Lisa turned to jazz, and has been a narrator of the art form ever since.

Her professional jazz career began in the nightclubs of Kansas City at age 17. She was mentored by the great Hammond B-3 player, Everette Devan, and cut her big band "teeth", performing with the Vince Bilardo Big Band and Steve Miller Orchestra.

Lisa Henry is an artist of vast accomplishments, both in and outside the realm of performance. These accomplishments include the recently televised PBS Special: In Performance at the White House, First runner-up in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocals Competition, International Jazz Ambassador to Africa, CD recordings, BET documentaries, and recognition as an international clinician and adjudicator.

As a jazz educator, Lisa takes the legacy and brilliance of jazz into classrooms and college campuses across the world. Through interactive assembly programs and vocal clinics, residencies, music business workshops, and performance adjudications, her teachings reach students from pre-school to university level.

Lonnie has been entertaining since he was in elementary school, learning tap licks, and intricate rhythms from his father, Kansas City hoofer and all around entertainer Smilin' Jimmy McFadden. His Dad, danced with the likes of "The Count Basie Orchestra," "Blanche Calloway's Harlem Review," "Jay McShann," and many more of the top name entertainers and orchestra's of the 30's and 40's. Along with leading a top notch tap dancing act of his own, "The 3 Chocolate Drops" who traveled around the eastern and central United States. Working in the same circuit as "The Berry Brothers," "The Rhythm Kings" and another group by the name of "The Will Mastin Trio."

McFadden began teaching his sons (The McFadden Brothers) tap dancing at the ages of 3 and 4. In addition, he made sure both Lonnie and Ronald took piano lessons at the Conservatory of music to learn music as he taught them lots of comedy bits, tap routines and songs to sing.

At ages 6 and 7 Lonnie and Ronald gave their first recital, an hour long show that consisted of the two McFadden Brothers singing, tap dancing, doing comedy bits and playing piano and organ. After The McFadden Brothers entered junior high school, they completely quit tap dancing and taking piano lessons, largely due to peer pressure as Lonnie recalls, "They weren't too fond of tap dancers at the school we went to." So they decided to concentrate more on playing the trumpet (Lonnie) and the alto saxophone (Ronald). Instruments that were more accepted by their peers.

As a teenager, Lonnie traveled with one of the regional R&B and Top 40 bands playing trumpet and singing before starting his own band, "Lonnie and The Band" that included Ronald on the alto sax. It was during this time that Lonnie became a song writer and arranger. After Lonnie and The Band had run it's course, The McFadden Brothers were born.

Shelly Bush is a native of Missouri and spent her childhood singing in church and school music competitions. She credits her love of music to her parents who have spent many years driving her over 400,000 miles around the country to singing engagements.
     While in high school Shelly won a guitar in a drawing from a local music store so she learned a few chords and started writing songs. In 1998 she graduated from college with a degree in Criminal Justice and immediately moved to Nashville to pursue a career in music.
     Since then Shelly has performed at many televised Nascar races and has been touring around the country playing at mostly fairs, casinos, and nightclubs. She has been the opening act for such artists as Sarah Evans, Dwight Yoakam, Blake Shelton, Lonestar, Trace Adkins, and has been the opening act for Michael Peterson throughout the previous year. Founded by Danny Reid in 2004, the Uptown Players originated as an association of professional entertainers, music educators, composers and arrangers from the greater Kansas City Jazz community. An instrumental jazz quartet was formed and began performing under the "Dan Reid Network".

By 2007 the Dan Reid Network (DRN) began to change direction musically. Guest artists of the DRN influenced band members to explore various musical styles and genres including Funk, Rock, Disco, Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, Soul, R & B and Fusion. New band members offering new musical influences, and an overall new sound eventually gave birth to the Uptown Players - an 8 piece funk, soul, R&B, jazz and blues showcase, now featuring a full horn section, rhythm section, and newly added vocals.

The current members collectively share extensive stage experience, have performed in locations around the globe and are affiliated with internationally acclaimed artists such as James Williams, Christian McBride, Clay Walker, and Tony Campise among others. Annetta Washington doesn't use her given name professionally, and most people have never heard it. Everyone follows the advice of her signature tune, "THEY CALL ME COTTON CANDY", and that they do.

Cotton Candy was a founding member and helped to organize the Kansas City Blues Society, and served as the original secretary during her three year tenure on the board. Today she still remains associated with the Society. She also has the distinction of being the first female blues artist to be inducted into the Elder Statesmen of Jazz. One can always find Cotton on stage somewhere doing what the blues are all about...living as well as performing them. "That's the true bedrock of the blues," Cotton says. "Living them."

Cotton comes from a religious and musical background. At age eight she was playing the piano for her minister/father's church, while her mother played piano in the local clubs. Her blues career began with she and two friends going to jam sessions in the Baghdad Club at 37th & Broadway in Kansas City. She would sing the two Dinah Washington songs that she knew weekend after weekend. Today she writes her own material by herself or in collaboration with her band.

Her present band, SO MANY MEN, is her third band. Cotton comments on the band, "You keep on working til you get what you want." .

Cotton Candy and So Many Men were recently honored by Mayor Emanuel Cleaver and the Kansas City City Council when they unanimously resolved and proclaimed April 14 as Annetta "Cotton Candy" Washington Day. This resolution becomes a permanent record in Kansas City music history.

Cotton Candy's CD, "THEY CALL ME COTTON CANDY" is already enjoying rave reviews across the country. To quote the Lare Bear, "Cotton Candy sings the blues with her whole heart, because she sees the blues in life."
